If you are interested in archeology take a trip to the ruins in the old antique town Lato which is just outside the village located on a hill in the surround area. The port of this trade village was in, what is know today as Agios Nikolaos. The amount of archaeological finds indicates the value and importance of the area around Kritsa during the Bronze Age, the time of the Minoan culture. The palaces are well-known around the world. The most known palace of Knossos, near todays capital Iraklio, was the home of Minotaurus. You can also find medieval traces from the Venetian culture a few kilometers away. The most famous church Panagia Kerá, with its impressive fresco, is located at the entrance of Kritsa surrounded by olive groves.

If you enjoy hiking you will be impressed not only by the rock faces but also the gorge in the northern part of Kritsa. This gorge is so extremely narrow at some places that you can actually touch both flanks at the same time. The Lasithi plateau and the cave of Zeus ( the cave of Psychro ) is located only a few kilometers south-west.
